With the topic of Marriage before us this weekend it's great timing to fill you in on the Great Date Weekend Escape that took place April 27 & 28.  Held at the beautiful Four Points by Sheraton Niagara Falls, this years event was a huge success.  26 couples set aside time and resources to make a long term investment in their relationships.  The topic "The Language of Sex - experiencing the beauty of sexual intimacy" certainly did not disappoint.  Ted Cunningham and Dr. Gary Smalley did an awesome job using story and humor to unpack this most intimate of topics.  In addition we were blessed by some very candid and transparent reflections from couples within our community.  Len and Laurie Janzen the retreat hosts were fantastic at creating a safe and fun environment.  In addition ample time was given for couples to work on topics specific to their situations and yes there was even time to hang out with other couples over meals.  

Here are some personal reflections that I received from one husband:  "This weekend for us was just what we needed, an intentional time away to work on the most important relationship we have with another person.  The highlight of the weekend was hearing the stories of respected people in our community and knowing we are not alone in any of the struggles that we have as a couple - everyone goes through this 'stuff'.  We would encourage other couples to participate next year because it takes the pressure and guilt off of your own situation when you can hear from others and talk about issues with your partner in a safe environment.  My wife and I are closer now than before the weekend because of taking the time to attend the retreat.  My wife even said it meant so much to her that I was willing to participate and to invest in us - and that feeling is mutual."  So there you have it.  When you hear of this event next year - maybe it will be your turn to check it out!
