On Thursday, May 23 M&S will be leading the Tabor Manor Chapel service again. It is a great time for our kids to lead, worship, and care for our seniors in our community. We will be singing a number of favourite M&S songs, sharing what God is doing in the lives of our M&S kids, as well as sharing flowers and a snack. All our Movers and Shakers are welcome and encouraged to come. Please arrive at Tabor Manor by 6:45 pm so we can get all prepared to serve.

It’s been an exciting year in Family Ministry, which includes our Kids (age 0 to Grade 5), Riot (Grades 6-8), Current (Sr. High), Collide (Young Adults), and Marriage programs. I’m not sure if you’ve made your way into a preschool classroom lately or peeked into the M&S program, but they are happening places! God has been using a great staff team, and incredibly committed volunteers to create an environment where kids can grow and thrive. And our ‘Family Ministry’ is the combination of all of these programs to provide a single system …
This month our Movers & Shakers are learning all about being salt and how to "shake their beATTITUDES." Check out Mack the Hammer as he raps about Matthew chapter 5 and the Beatitudes and how they can help us to create a good attitude!

Movers and Shakers are Running the Race for Jesus and this week are Running to Serve. They learned to run like Jesus. They should serve others in need without expecting that person to pay it back. The memory verse from Matthew 25:40 helps to remind us that as we serve people we actually serve Jesus. They also learned in Luke 14:14 that Jesus will be the one to pay them back!
To inspire them, each child who was at Movers and Shakers this past Sunday was given a "toonie" to serve someone and show …
This Sunday Movers and Shakers start training to “Run the Race: H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Everyday)”.
Following Jesus requires good training. Just as one runs a race to win a prize, so those who run to follow Christ run to win a prize.......an eternity with Him. Running takes training and training requires a thankful heart, a generous spirit, an openness to love those who are difficult to love, and a commitment to persevere even when the running gets tough. Let’s train hard in order that we might run well for Jesus.

Glenridge Update
In the past, check-in on Sunday mornings consisted of stations in the nursery, M&S hallway and the gymnasium for RIOT. Having multiple check-in stations has been a challenge for families who have children of different age groups. It has been especially difficult for new families to try and figure out where to go when they arrive on a Sunday mornings. Therefore, as of Sunday October 7 we will be moving all check in stations to one central location. Our goal is to provide a clear …

Now that we have launched into a new school year, M&S is about to take off with a new series entitled "Get On Board"!!
Kids will discover that flying with Jesus as their pilot provides the safety and security they need. As a passenger they will feel valued, loved, and accepted in order to better serve those in their places of destination.
Each week kids will receive their “boarding pass” that reinforces the Big Idea and the Bible passage. The boarding pass also allows you as a family access to the @ home …

Each year during M&S kids camp we try to raise awareness and funds for a special project.
This year M&S sponsored Blanca, a child from the village in Ecuador that Southridge is supporting through Compassion. Our goal during the series was to help develop a heart of action and compassion in the kids of M&S as they looked beyond themselves by raising awareness and support for Blanca and Compassion. Our financial goal was $600. We also wanted kids to think of ways they could be involved in supporting Blanca …

Flipt by Jesus This Summer
This Sunday M&S is kicking off our summer series called “Flipt”.
Each week, kids watch and hear the story of someone from the Bible whose life got Flipt when they met Jesus. Kids will learn they can choose to live their way or they can get Flipt by Jesus and live His way—‘cause it's the best way. Each week kids will be challenged to apply the Bible lesson to their lives through the flip for the week.

In M&S these days we are “getting down low to lift God high”. In a series called PRAISE we are helping our kids to praise God for His greatness, authority, providence, power, and love. Beyond giving worth to our great God, we are also inspiring kids to develop a heart of compassion. We want our kids to develop a heart that leads to a life of action. Ultimately, our intent is to see kids look beyond themselves, and to be committed in serving the poor and the marginalized.

In my mind, a true picture of community is a place where all generations are represented and appreciated. Old and young together, sharing, bringing joy to each other, and just celebrating life is a wonderful example of that picture. Last evening, almost 35 kids from M&S and their families gathered at Tabor Manor in St. Catharines to share some songs, to give a small bouquet of flowers, and to bring a smile to the faces of our elderly. It was beautiful!

The end of May and beginning of June always takes on a special look and feel for Movers and Shakers. This is the time of the year when we create a Kid’s Camp experience on Sunday mornings that introduces kids to new songs, creative teaching in a unique setting through drama and fine arts, and a variety of small group activities that foster fun and friendship. It’s a great way to celebrate a year of learning in M&S!

In the spirit of keeping our programming for children aligned with the adult programming, we have spent the last number of weeks asking questions that were raised by some of the children who attend Movers and Shakers. For those of us who have young children, or have worked with young children, we know that asking questions comes naturally, especially young, inquisitive minds. A series revolving around kid friendly questions was a logical next step in our programming.
The value in asking questions is to develop a better understanding of ourselves, and even our world. Likewise, as spiritual …

With Family Day scheduled for Monday, February 20, we wanted to create an event to celebrate the gift of our families and the gift of community. What better than a Family Skate! Join us at the Seymour Hannah Sportsplex in St. Catharines from 2:15 to 4:15. It's a great opportunity to lace up the skates, enjoy some hot chocolate, and meet some new people. Everyone is invited!
In lieu of admission, we encourage all participants to bring some non-perishable items for our Homeless Shelter. Thanks in advance and we'll see you on the rink!

If you find your way entering Movers and Shakers over the next three weeks, you may see us blowing soap bubbles, popping bubble wrap, or competing to determine who can create the biggest bubble using bubble gum. Never a dull moment in Movers and Shakers! Although kicking off our Sunday mornings should be fun and games, the point of such activities is meant to get kids thinking about the bubble they themselves might be living in. Let’s face it, close examination of who we spend our time with, and what we do with our …
Happy New Year Everyone! I trust God has you in a place where you might begin to imagine all that God would do through you and in our church in the coming year. Having a posture that allows God to use all of us as His instruments sets the stage well for 2012! Great things are in store!

This Sunday marks our M&S Christmas Celebration. For the past couple of Sundays we have been deliberate in helping our kids know the true meaning of Christmas, the promise given by the prophets long before Jesus came to earth, and then the events surrounding His birth in Bethlehem 2000 years ago. A significant part of the message over the past two weeks has been helping our kids to discover that the gift of Jesus is “A Gift for Everyone”. For that reason, we have intentionally challenged all of our SK to Grade 5 kids …
I bring you good news of great joy for everyone. The Saviour of the world has been born in Bethlehem. (Luke 2: 10, 11)
For young children, the beginning of December and the anticipation of Christmas comes with images of brilliant lights, decorated trees, days off from school, and of course, the joy of receiving and giving gifts. Ask any child what’s special about Christmas, and activity around presents or gifts are likely to become the immediate response. Celebrating Christmas with this kind of festivity is certainly a part of the season, but what if this Christmas …

When the conversation of Vineland Mennonite Brethren Church becoming a part of Southridge started to gain momentum this fall, Carole and I were quite excited for our Vineland community. Not only were we eager to see where these conversations would lead, and how our church might impact a community like Vineland, we were certain, that if this outcome were realized, we would step up and make this our home location. As residents of Vineland, the thought of investing in the local church, and working to assist the Southridge expression of Vineland to become a thriving, God honouring place …
