Jack and Jill went up the hill… on their way to church.
For Jack, attending church on Sundays was a fairly regular routine. He liked going to church and considered it an important part of his Christian faith. He enjoyed connecting with others from his church on Sundays – catching up on the sports scores and discussing upcoming vacation plans – and he liked the feeling he got by attending the services. Church made him feel ‘right’ again with God. It kind of re-centred him for another busy week.
By busy, I mean crazy busy. Jack’…
Last weekend we had the opportunity to enjoy another great Vision Night together. Gathering as One Church, we worshipped God and shared His goodness with one another.
The worship time was followed up by this message, not really casting new or drastically different vision, but rather clarifying and encouraging us in pursuing the vision we're on.
If you missed Vision Night, please take the time to watch the video and get your tank filled for this next ministry season!

While hosting this morning at our Glenridge location, I asked everyone if they were ready for our Superbowl party tonight. I needed to correct their asumption that I had my dates mixed up by explaining that this evening is essentially "Superbowl Sunday" at Southridge.

For the past couple months we've been tackling a financial challenge together. Before last weekend -- the final Sunday for people to contribute in 2012 -- I mentioned that we had gained some ground over the past month or so, but, heading into the final Sunday, we still had a significant way to go.
By "significant", I meant something along the lines of about $100,000. Since that figure felt more intimidating than motivating, I hadn't bothered mentioning it specifically. But from the perspective of our financial challenge, this number represented the 'finish line'.

Just over a month ago we let all of you in on a recent financial challenge we were facing. Trending steadily throughout most of this year, we saw a significant decline in our donations between early October and mid-November and made everyone aware of our need at that time with just over a month before year-end.
Now with only one week to go, I’m thrilled to say that we have gained some ground on that trending. God has moved in many peoples’ hearts and we’re heading in a better direction. Thanks to everyone who&…

Over the past few Sundays we've made people aware of a recent trend in our financial giving that has had us concerned. As a leadership, we wanted everyone to know about it so we could rally together and tackle that challenge before year-end. I'm pleased to report that, over the past couple weeks, people have really begun to respond! Our offerings these past two Sundays have been up considerably compared to the previous year, and creating a positive trend as we approach the end of the year.

Last Sunday night as part of our ongoing rhythm of One Church events we held a Town Hall meeting and enjoyed a spirited family-style conversation about the way God is beginning to grow our church in enabling and empowering women to lead. We discussed how God has led us into this journey, what we're learning through this journey and where we're going on this journey.
Note that the presentation is nearly an hour-and-a-half long, so make sure you set aside ample time to fully absorb the conversation!

As a multi-site church, we're seeking to cultivate community and oneness across all of our locations together through occasional evening experiences called 'One Church Events' - which generally rotate through Vision Nights, Spotlight worship events and Town Hall family-style conversations. For this month we're gathering this Sunday evening, November 18, for a Town Hall meeting and want to introduce you to a conversation that we've recently begun to better empower female leaders in our church.
I don't want to give too much away - I'd rather you come to the meeting to hear about it directly! …

Last Sunday evening our church family gathered from across all of our locations to enjoy a One Church event as we celebrated a Vision Night together. We were encouraged and challenged for the year ahead, both personally and together as a community!
If you missed last weekend's Vision Night, be sure to watch the message. If you came and were inspired to give God your "all in!", watch it again. And again. And reflect on where was challenging you to trust, obey, surrender, sacrifice and commit to Him in a fuller and deeper way!

One of the most special times for our church family is what we call our 'One Church' evening events, where on about a monthly basis we get to gather together as one congregation across multiple locations and enjoy worship, celebration, dialogue and encouragement for how God is moving among us.
My personal favourites of these are our semi-annual 'Vision Nights', where we worship together and hear about where God is leading us in this next era of the adventure of Southridge. At Vision Night, we get inspired, captivated and challenged to go for it with God together to a …

If you haven’t heard yet, the re-launch of our North End location has been delayed for at least twelve months. To hear more about our leadership’s thinking on this, check out the previous news post.
Before moving forward though, we want to stop and reflect on some of the amazing things that God has done through this location for the past three or so years. There have been some extremely significant moves that God has made to advance His Kingdom here in the Niagara Region—whether it’s opening the door to serving marginalized …

Over the past month we’ve been in dialogue with our church family from our North End location about what will happen with this location in September. Both Welland and the North End locations were unable to continue in their respective high schools for the summer, and where Welland was able to transition to the new Community Centre there, the North End—through prayer, discernment and dialogue—integrated into our other locations for the summer months.
The summer hiatus in the North End also opened up some new dialogue for the future, as the vision for multi-site&…

Earlier this year our church completed our annual budget development process. This season inevitably triggers the question, “Where does the money go?” Personally, I think that’s a terrific question because Jesus clearly taught an expectation of ROI (Return On Investment). Consider the parable of the talents, for example, where He describes a king who entrusted servants with some of his talents, intending them to each use the resources for financial gain. To the servants who generated gain on their investment, the king called them “good and faithful servants,” but to the servant who generated …
For me, it actually started by accident.
I wasn’t initially booked to attend an event called “The Leadership Summit” at a suburban Chicago church called Willow Creek back in August of 1997. But when someone else backed out at the last minute and I was invited to go, I agreed and embarked on a weekend road trip with little to no expectation. That is, until I experienced the very first session.
I can still remember the title of the session: “Leadership–A Life and Death Deal”. The message was rooted in the Ephesians 6 metaphor …
