The 24/7 blog that we've called Resources is intended to be a multifaceted exploration of the Christian life. It is a place where we expand the conversation about what God is doing in our lives and in our community, and further reflect on what it looks like to live a life of full devotion to Christ, 24/7. This post is part of a series of posts about interpreting the Bible. It was composed by Pat Beard, a longtime member of the Southridge community and Bible teacher in a variety of contexts.

Jack and Jill went up the hill… on their way to church.
For Jack, attending church on Sundays was a fairly regular routine. He liked going to church and considered it an important part of his Christian faith. He enjoyed connecting with others from his church on Sundays – catching up on the sports scores and discussing upcoming vacation plans – and he liked the feeling he got by attending the services. Church made him feel ‘right’ again with God. It kind of re-centred him for another busy week.

Last Thursday night, I spoke at R!OT's "Man vs Wild" event about every 11-14 year-old's favourite topic... "pornography". Well, OK, maybe it's not every 12 year old's favourite topic of discussion (I know, it's bit awkward!), but it's an important one. When the average age of first internet exposure to pornography is 11 years old, it's a conversation that families need to be having earlier and earlier. Because of that, I'm so glad that some of the R!OT Dads got to be at the Thursday …
When you hear the sermon on Sunday do you ever wonder how you can draw some of its ideas or challenges into your day-to-day life? Come and explore the spiritual exercises presented here to reflect on how you can physically walk the sermon out this week. Read through the suggestions and try one or more. Or, better yet, let them inspire you to create something even more in tune with how you personally meet God. Either way, use this space to become more deeply engaged with Christ, as you open up to the love of God, and listen to …

This post is a copy of the poem from Sunday's service, written by Bonnie Fowler as the invitation of God to allow his powerful presence into the midst of the brokenness of our lives. May you discover in and through it the comfort …
Matthew 6:8: "...For your Father knows what you need before you ask him."
If this verse in Matthew is true, which I believe it to be, then it poses some important questions about prayer. "Why bother praying at all? If God knows everything, what is the purpose in me talking to Him about anything?"
When I was asked if I would consider writing about prayer for this magazine, my initial excitement was overrun when I realized how much my prayer life was not quite what I wish it were in this season. I tried to brainstorm …

It’s been an exciting year in Family Ministry, which includes our Kids (age 0 to Grade 5), Riot (Grades 6-8), Current (Sr. High), Collide (Young Adults), and Marriage programs. I’m not sure if you’ve made your way into a preschool classroom lately or peeked into the M&S program, but they are happening places! God has been using a great staff team, and incredibly committed volunteers to create an environment where kids can grow and thrive. And our ‘Family Ministry’ is the combination of all of these programs to provide a single system …

On May 30, 2013 the Niagara Furniture Bank, which provides gently used furniture to those in need in the Niagara Region, will be hosting the inaugural Chair Affair fundraising event. The concept is this: artists and designers in the community have selected chairs from the Furniture Bank warehouse and "up-cycled" them into works of art and functional furniture pieces. These pieces will be auctioned at the event on May 30th, with the proceeds going directly toward the core operations of the Furniture Bank.

As a family at Southridge, Elfrieda and I are happy to be together on Sunday mornings with our community, and really enjoy participating regularly in our Life Group every second Wednesday. Our group began in a unique way. Initially in September we started as a Connect Group, which is an on-ramp to Life Groups, and was led by Rick and Carole Zwiers. This was an ideal …

Each issue of the Southridge Magazine we have offered an update on our Anchor-Causes. In preparing to write the update for the Glenridge Anchor Cause, the Southridge Shelter, I was thinking about the best way to update people. I wanted people to know about the various services we are offering people who find themselves homeless, the recreational programs that help foster friendships between our residents and volunteers, and how to summarize the many volunteer options that the shelter offers. Then I realized that there is a person in our community who can speak first-hand about all three of …
